Dear Physician Owner or Practice Administrator, My name is Paul Rice. My former colleague and now business partner, Tonia Raley, and I have recently joined forces to form Raley & Rice, a brand new and very unique medical billing company. After spending several decades in financial leadership roles within the physician private practice model, we’re setting a new standard of performance in third-party revenue cycle management. We would like to ask you a few questions: 1. Are you happy with your current medical billing and collection service? If not, why not? 2. If you are, that’s great to hear. Are you confident you have the correct information you need to make that assessment? Successful reimbursement for the services you provide is the lifeline of your practice. Collecting what is due to you is more challenging than ever before. Insurance company payment guidelines have become increasingly complex. Claim denial rates are skyrocketing. High deductible health insurance plans have shifted health care costs from the insurer to the patient. Experienced and well-trained billing personnel are becoming increasingly difficult to find. Perhaps most frustrating is the lack of transparency offered by many third-party billing agencies. Getting honest and direct answers to simple questions seems to be a thing of the past. We know many practicing physicians who strive mightily to be independent and financially secure. Nothing would please us more than to assist you in keeping that goal a reality. We invite you to spend a few minutes with this brochure and see what our new company is all about. We think you’ll decide an hour of time to meet with us would be time well-spent. We hope to have the opportunity to speak with you soon. Respectfully, Paul Rice, CPA and Tonia Raley, CPC Raley & Rice, LLC
WHY MEDICAL BILLING EFFICIENCY MATTERS Your billing company’s operational efficiency impacts not only their bottom line; it directly affects the quality of your collections. Medical billing companies are in business to make a profit, just as you are. In most cases, their revenue is tied to your revenue thru a collections commission structure. What you may not know, is that the attention given to your collections is probably based on what’s in their best interest, not yours. Each dollar of your collections has a cost attached to it. Claims submitted and paid quickly and properly cost the least to process, generating higher profit margins for your billing company. Claims initially denied by insurance or paid improperly, must be reviewed, corrected, and then
re-submitted. In some cases, a formal appeal may be necessary. When this occurs, the cost per claim to collect rises dramatically. This is because additional and often scarce resources must be allocated to claims with no corresponding increase in commission payment. Studies show billions of collectible physician dollars are left on the table each year. Estimates range anywhere from 5% to 20% of all medical claims are initially denied for payment, depending on the insurer and specialty. Of those denied, as many as 65% are never worked and re-submitted for payment. The numbers are staggering. WHY IS THIS OCCURRING? Increasingly complex insurance rules,
inadequate training, and an industry plagued
with high staff turnover, are largely to blame.
Unfortunately, it has become common for billing companies,
focused on maximizing their own return on
investment, to allocate personnel to new claims submission rather than working their physician
client’s claim denials. The end result is an aging accounts receivable losing value as
time passes. Is this happening with your practice receivables? SIT DOWN WITH US. RALEY & RICE CAN HELP.
